SAL Food Conference Success!

Last Thursday 22nd October, SAL hosted its first Food Conference at The Evolution Suite Old Trafford, Manchester. The event titled ‘Food Safety – The Challenge to The Industry’ was a huge success attracting over 80 key delegates from the food industry.

The audience enjoyed a varied and stimulating series of talks from seven industry and academic leaders relating to the issues of food safety and the increase in consumer awareness of this matter.

Topics covered included: Food Safety – The Challenge for the Food and Drink Industry, Managing Microbiology Safety in Food Production, Risk Management of Food Packaging, Food Allergen Management, Mycotoxins, Pesticide Management, Micro-pollutants in Food and Food Safety from a Retailer Perspective.

The day included presentations given by Campden BRI, Winterbotham Darby, University of Manchester, PSI, Marks and Spencer and SAL.

Commenting on the day, Naresh Patel, Food Business Development Director at SAL and Conference Chair said “To host and event with many distinguished leaders from both their fields and industry was a great honour for SAL. This was further complimented with a prestigious audience who actively took part in the discussions, to me this was clear evidence that we need to do more events like this.”

Adding to this, one of the speakers Kate Stein, Head of Technology – Fresh at Marks and Spencer commented “What a great conference at a fabulous venue. A great mix of speakers and topics which complemented each other. A good mixture of science and practical application. I hope this is the first of many SAL conferences!”

From an attendee perspective Sandra Evans, New Business Development Manager at Parkside Flexibles Ltd. commented “A Fantastic opportunity for Parkside Flexibles to understand what the industry is facing regarding food safety and to research and develop packaging to assist with some of the ongoing issues. An informative and interesting day.”

The success of the event has been very gratifying for the SAL Sales and Marketing team who were responsible for its organisation. Early planning is already underway for the next SAL Conference, for which we look forward to seeing you again soon!
