Senior Analyst – Air – Analytical & Development Services – Manchester

The Role

Analytical & Development Services (ADS) have an opportunity to join as a Senior Analyst in the Air Laboratory.  This is a full time permanent role based at the Hadfield House site in Manchester.  The successful individual will have significant scientific knowledge across multiple analytical techniques and the ability to oversee/supervise other Analyst’s work.  Able to effectively communicate their knowledge of the regulations and the science behind analysis techniques through active discussion.  Confidence in external communication with the customer will be expected, with input into technical discussions.  Must have gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) experience.

Qualifications/Role Requirements

  • Responsible for running their designated instrument, calibration, quality control, data processing and system suitability recording.
  • Taking the lead on reporting results and running investigations for PT schemes.
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Quality Control (QC) chart reviews and management on investigations.
  • KPI and re-test management and documentation.
  • Maintenance and the record keeping of Instrumentation, keeping the instrument and its area clean and tidy.
  • In conjunction with Section Manager identify bottlenecks or potential issues in the laboratory, moving staff to maintain smooth operations of the laboratory
  • Trouble shooting and the corresponding maintenance of their instruments and communication of actions/effectiveness to management.
  • Review/Check QC data and analytical results.
  • Aid the laboratory Production Manager in processing the day’s workload and ensuring it runs at optimal efficiency.
  • Technical checking of results
  • Ensure communication between analysts and trainee analysts is effective.
  • Communicate with the laboratory staff and sample preparation staff to ensure that all samples are ready to be run when needed.
  • Communicate with the Customer Service team to ensure clients reporting times are met.
  • Comply with SOP’s and QP’s and associated changes to this documentation.
  • Train analysts in SOP’s and QP’s and help perform training needs analyses.
  • Aid the QC Manager in dealing with non-conformities associated to raw data and laboratory processes.
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements of the site as Stated within Company policy, procedure and practice
  • Take the lead in method development and validations as and when required.
  • Support the analyst team and aid other departments when necessary.
  • Deputise for Section Manager /Technical Lead during periods of absence.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company brand and values.

Qualifications/Role Requirements

  • Relevant degree or experience.
  • GC/MS experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of instrument and test.
  • Knowledge of quality systems.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor colleagues.

Working Hours

  • 37.5 per week with flexibility required to meet the needs of the business.
